A Wise Person Once Said...

"Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."

 --- Winston Churchill

I am having to keep this in mind lately my friends, because I seem stuck.  I am still hovering around the same weight.  No change in meal plans, but a slight increase in cardio.  I know that I am not destined to be stuck at 300 lbs, but I can't seem to move the dial...very frustrating.  Following Churchill's advice, I'll keep at it, but I am bummed that I am not getting results right now.

Continuing the effort,

Big Clyde

As frustrating as it is...don't let it stop you from more progression. You have come a long way in a short time my friend. A wise blogger once told me this is not a sprint but a marathon (I think it was you).

Thanks, Dude. Yes, I said that (got it from my boss, actually).

As contrived as it might sound, I feel like if I slow or stop my progress, I might be letting people down. I know I'll keep losing eventually, but I wouldn't want to add to someone else's concern that "this just can't be done".

Your fat can't outsmart you, so if you keep fighting it, it'll eventually give in and scram!

Blame the increase in exercise. Something about your muscles retaining water, I think. My body hit a few plateaus. It's normal. With an amazing loss like you've had, your body might need time to adjust. Keep doing what you're doing, and know that you're improving your health. It's tough when the scale doesn't reward your efforts.

You guys are all so great! Okay, please believe me when I tell you that I posted something to Cinci (on my previous topic), then just went out to do a C25K week 1 walk/jog! I laced up and went out running for about 25 minutes! (It is about 8:10pm now). I feel great, thanks to the run and the inspiration from all of you.

But honestly, I really haven't been exercising much at all. More parking lot / grampa workouts everyday, but that really shouldn't be stalling my weight loss, because I can't be gaining any muscle from a few more steps each day. Maybe it is just my body adjusting to a lower weight for awhile.

Anyway, thanks so much everyone for keeping me going. I would have stopped if not for the inspiration and encouragement from all of you.

Weight loss and increases in fitness are not linear. You've done a great job to this point. There will be plateaus. If gaining fitness and weight loss were easy eveyone would be able to do it. There would be no market for fad diets. It takes work and commitment. Both traits you have shown. Get back on your horse, both
literally and figuratively. The bike is sitting in your garage. Get on it. Like Nike's tagline...just do it. There will be plateaus. Just do it. No whiners.

Love the quote. Classes up our little weight loss blogosphere! Keep it up.

I'm right there with you, Clyde. We'll get through this. Don't give up!

Keep your head up! You will get these bumps. Can't get spoiled with big drops every week ;)

Try walking more during your day. Get up and walk a little lap round the office or go to the bathroom (even if you don't have to go) every half hour or something.

You need to change your routine. Your body has become use to what your doing. You need to shock your body and trick it. Just like learing a new city, if you drive the same way to work everyday, you'll never know the alternatives. Your body needs to learn the alternative way to lose weight. When I plateau while lifting weights, I change my routine, and lift a different way. I do different exercises that work the same muscle, I do the sets in a different order, or I change the way I am lifting the weight. Your body is a machine, but it learns and adapts. You need to reprogram it once and a while... Don't get stressed bro, you look amazing and your going to get there. I've noticed the change and I'm sure everyone else has too. Your a champ and you'll get pass this.

Hi Clyde, plateus can be frustrating but keep doing what you're doing because your body will catch up. It's just like when we aren't eating healthy we might get away with it for awhile but eventually the body catches up. Hang in there I have no doubt you'll do it. Take care of You
